Activity Overview

If you head south for about three quarters of an hour from Sacramento, you'll find yourself in the city of Lodi, California. The city of Lodi is home to a fantastic science museum for you and your family to visit, The World of Wonders Science Museum. The museum is reasonably priced and encourages the little ones to learn through interacting with exhibits and the environment around them.

The museum takes inspiration from the Exploratorium and when it was first opened in 2009, the World of Wonders Science Museum finally provided the area with the hands-on science museum that it deserved. There are plenty of exhibits for the little ones to enjoy and they will learn about science without even realizing they're doing it!

Things to Do

  • Watch a fiber optic firework display.
  • Learn about light and shadows at the museum's shadow table.
    • Freeze your shadows onto the museum's shadow wall. The wall uses a phosphor wall that "remembers" your shadows once struck by a flash of light.
    • Make colored shadows and experiment with additive color mixing using your shadows to mix various colors from red, green, and blue light.
    • Build your own Lego racer and find out about construction.
    • Create a convection current and learn how liquids behave when heated.
    • Make bubbles. Kids always love this activity!

I just went there this week and it was fun. Very inexpensive and not very large so you could get everything done. I happen to homeschool my son and was able to use my teacher id and I got in free. Worth the trip.
