Activity Overview

The Wheaton History Center is a non-profit institution which aims to preserve the history and culture of the town of Wheaton. It also aims to illustrate the town's relationship to American and international history. Inside are a number of exhibits and the Wheaton National Hall Of Fame which commemorates famous individuals who have lived or were born in Wheaton.

Things to Do

Come along and learn about different aspects of Wheaton's and the U.S.A's history through their exhibits. Current exhibitions include "War of the Rebellion: On & Off the Battlefield" which gives an insight into the realities of life during the American Civil War. "Frames of the Eastland" shows pictures from July 24th 1915 when the S.S Eastlands capsized taking the lives of more people than the sinking of the Titanic. There are also exhibits about golf and Wheaton's proud relationship to the sport.
The Wheaton National Hall of Fame celebrates the many famous and important people from the fields of sports, theatre, literature and science who have lived in the town at one time or another through its history.
School Programs at the Center can be schedueled anytime. If you are interested you can contact the Center by email at [email protected]. Their program can cater up to 100 students in one group. The Center can also accomodate students or entire groups with special needs. Programs are also available for scouts.
You can also visit the center for History located on Main Street which is only used for exhibitions on slavery, abolition and the Underground Railroad.

The Center is a perfect destination for a day trip from the city of Chicago. It is located 25 miles west of Chicago between North Avenue and Roosevelt Road.
Individual, household and corporate memberships are all available to the Center. Benefits of the membership include free unlimited admission to the center and all special programs and exhibits plus a 10% discount on most purchases at the Museum's shop.
