Vulcan Park & Museum
Activity OverviewLooking for something to do in and around Birmingham, Alabama? You should consider heading along to Vulcan Park & Museum in order to visit the wildly-impressive statue of Vulcan, the largest cast iron statue in the world! Vulcan is the Roman god of fire and volcanoes and represents the iron industry that formed the beginnings of the city. The statue was first designed in 1903 and constructed the following year as Birmingham's entry to the World's Fair that year in St. Louis, Missouri. The statue, which is 56 feet tall and now stands proudly atop a 126-foot pedestal, was installed in its current location in the 1930s but after decades of wear and tear, the statue was in a sad state and in desperate need of repair. Thanks to a lot of hard work and generous funding, the statue was repaired and the park was expanded in order to create the wonderful Vulcan Park and Museum that you and your family can visit today.
