Activity Overview

The Virginia Zoo is a 53-acre nature attraction in Norfolk, Virginia that has been open to the public since 1900. It is home to over 500 animals, from elephants and giraffes to small-clawed otters, moon bears, and tapirs. In addition to the diverse array of animals on display, you can also escape the summer heat with a visit to the zoo's water plaza or climb aboard the Norfolk Southern Express for an informative train ride around the zoo.

Things to Do

• Explore the zoo and view all of the animals, including Cita, an African elephant that has been in famous films, lions, tigers, orangutans, meerkats, and adorable red pandas.
• Cool off in the summertime by spending some time splashing around at the water plaza - the park's entry plaza fountains are a popular place for little ones to play in the water in their swimsuits.
• Go for a ride on the zoo train! For just $2 per person, you can enjoy a 20-minute ride around the zoo on a scale model of a steam engine.
