Activity Overview
The Twin City Model Railroad Museum, located in St. Paul's Bandana Square, is a non-profit organisation which aims to preserve the history of the Twin Cities railroads while providing entertainment for young and old alike. The Museum has a large number of exhibits and scale models designed to impress toy train enthusiasts and interest novices of the hobby.
Things to Do
- Come and see the museum's most impressive exhibit the "O-Scale exhibit". This large and intricately detailed model covers the Twin City's rail history from 1891 to 1954. Thousands of hours of work went into the replication of landmarks like the James J. Hill "Stone Arch Bridge", the 1880 Milwaukee "Short Line Bridge" and the 1913 "Great Northern Station".
- Beginning on the Saturday of Thanksgiving and running through until the final Saturday of February the Museum hosts its Night Trains Season. From 6:00 til 9:00 the Museum staff dim the lights and put on a special display of their models lit up for the night-time.
Twin City Model Railroad Museum Insider Tips
- The Museum has a second location known as the Toy Trains Division. This section has even more scale models and toy trains of various models and sizes. It is only open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays and it has a special member's night on Thursdays. This section is located next door to the regular museum in the Chimney's Building; the museum staff can point you in the right direction.
- Admission for children of ages 4 and under is free.
- Parking at the museum is free.
