Activity Overview

Located in the waters of Stony Creek in Branford, Connecticut, the small islands consisting the archipelago of Thimble Islands have become a boating/sailing destination for tourists. Numerous boat charter companies have emerged in the area offering different activities to experience in the islands. Learn about Thimble Island's history, how it got its name, and the various treasure hunt stories that surround it. Depending on which tour you would like to take, public tours usually take 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Things to Do

  • Research for the charter company of your choice and reserve for tour slots. Led by the boat captain, you will be taken around Thimble Islands and he will give you the history of the islands plus information about the plants and wildlife found in each. The tour is best enjoyed with a drink in hand so ask the crew for the menu since most cruises offer food and drinks onboard.
  • Migrant seals also visit the islands as part of their route. Most companies offer Seal Watch Tours starting the month of December. It's best to call ahead for reservations.
  • Private charters are also available. Contact the cruise companies if you wish to go on a wine and cheese tour or a private dinner cruise in Thimble Islands.
