Activity Overview
The Cleveland Botanical Garden can be found in the University Circle area of Cleveland. There is much to explore and learn from in these tranquil gardens on Cleveland's east side. The biggest draw for young children and families is the Hershey Children's Garden. This award winning area provides a fun area in which children can learn about and play with nature.
Things to Do
- Special activities are organized at the Hershey Children's Garden throughout the time that it is open. For example on Wednesdays during the Fall families can come at 5 pm to enjoy a special sunset surprise activity.
- Every Thursday at 11 am there is a "Nature Tales Story Time" which takes place indoors if there is bad weather.
- There are also weekend programs during the fall where young children partake in making crafts and playing games to learn about different topics such as "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", "Butterflies", "Harvesting", "Seed Dispersal" and "Herbs".
- Don't miss out on exploring the rest of the Botanical Gardens too. You can experience the cloud forests of Costa Rica and the deserts of Madagascar at the Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse. Beyond that there is an additional ten acres of gardens to enjoy which include a Japanese Garden and a rendering of the Ohio Woodland.
The Hershey Children's Garden at Cleveland Botanical Garden Insider Tips
- If you have an infant try to leave their stroller either at home or in the car. The ground in the Botanical Garden is often un-even and not very stroller friendly, often you're simply better off carrying your young child.
- The Children's Garden is open during usual Garden hours from March 23rd until October 31st. During these dates it closes at dusk.
