Activity Overview

The Green is a small, pleasant one and a half acre green space sat right in the center of Charlotte City. The park was opened in 2002 and ever since then has provided a calm respite from the hustle and bustle of the city center. It is designed around a literary theme and plays host to different cultural events throughout the year. This is a popular spot for the office lunch hour and makes an ideal location to sit and people watch.

Things to Do

  • The park is designed largely around the theme of world literature. Sculptures, quotes from famous authors and comical signposts dot the park dedicated to this theme.
  • Aside from this there are many fountains, mosaic benches and stools and shaded areas where one can go to relax and where children are free to play. Besides this the park is home to a lovely, lush landscape and a number of take-outs and shops are nearby.
  • The Green sees free movie screenings and plays at different times of the year, mostly during summer. The highlight is the Charlotte Shakespeare Festival which kicks off every year in June with a performance at the Green.

The Green Insider Tips

  • At the Green you are right on the doorstep of a number of the city's sights. The Mint Museum, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, the Charlotte Convention Center and St. Peter's Catholic Church all either border or are nearby the park so it can make a good spot to have a rest while exploring the city.
