Activity Overview
The Experience Music Project celebrates the imagination and creativity of modern popular culture. It was inspired initially by the history and culture of rock 'n' roll but exhibits on the blues, hip hop, Latin and Jamaican music, art and film have explored much more than that. The same building also houses the Science Fiction Museum. This Museum is full of fascinating artifacts from movies such as Star Wars and Terminator as well as popular television shows. With an advisory board that includes George Lucas, James Cameron and Steven Spielberg sci-fi fans are sure to be in for a big treat.
Things to Do
- Two of the museum's major exhibitions concentrate individually on the music and careers of Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana. Hendrix's rise to become an icon of 60's rock is explored as is Nirvana's explosion onto the scene in the early 90's, a moment which changed rock music forever.
- Other notable exhibits throughout the museums are teh Indie Game Revolution which explores advances in gaming and the future potential of games as well as the Sound Lab where you can try your hand at various instruments.

- The impressive architecture of the 140,000 square foot building alone makes it worth a trip. It was designed by famous architect Frank O. Gehry. He made the model for the project from cut up guitars to reflect the Museum's concentration on rock music. This gives it a totally unique shape with vibrant colors that dazzle in the sun light.
