Terrace Hill in Des Moines, Iowa is a national historic landmark, it is the official residence of the governor of Iowa. The mansion has a historic architecture, the architecture is reminiscence of the second French empire, the style was popular in the early 19th century. Terrace Hill was built in 1869, it was owned by millionaire Benjamin Franklin Allen. The mansion was used first time as a governor's house in 1976. A carriage house is located near the mansion that has many exhibits on display. Terrace Hill offers guided tours March through December, the mansion is open to tours Tuesday through Saturday.
