Activity Overview

If you and your little ones are looking for an outdoor activity in lower Manhattan, you should consider heading along to Teardrop Park in Battery Park City. Those from outside of New York City may not know that Battery Park City and Teardrop Park would have originally been part of the Hudson River had it not been for the landfilling that took place during the 1970s to build this urban gem on the southwest tip of Manhattan.

While Battery Park City has existed for over 40 years, Teardrop Park has been a feature of the area for just over a decade. The Natural Learning Initiative advised on the construction on the play areas in the park in order to create an engaging area for children to play and learn.

Things to Do

  • Let the little ones zoom down the huge slide. Teardrop Park's playground boasts a larger slide than you see in most playgrounds in the area. However, you may want to advise against letting very small children go on this one.
  • Encourage the little ones to play and learn in one of the park's sand pits.

Teardrop Park Insider Tips

  • Heading along to Teardrop Park during the summer? Don't forget to bring along swimsuits for your little ones as there is a great sprinkler area for the kids to play around in.
  • While the park isn't necessarily dangerous, it is by no means as timid as some of the other parks around New York and the little ones may get a few bumps and scrapes as they climb up and down the rocks in the park.
