Activity OverviewSutter's Fort state Historic Park is a national historic landmark located in Sacramento, California. The fort was built by a Swiss Immigrant John Sutter in 1839 and was originally called "New Helvetia". The fort was an agriculture empire and is associated with the Donner party, and the California gold rush. Sutter's fort displays a unique collection of early California artifacts through exhibits and programs. Several hiking and biking trails pass through the historic park.
