If you have ever wondered what it would be like to live on a submarine, then the Submarine Force Museum in the shoreline town of Groton, CT is the perfect place to visit. Tour the museum at no cost and view the hundreds of submarine related artifacts and learn the complete history of submarines. You will then have the ability to take a self guided tour of the WWII Submarine, the USS Nautilus.
Things to Do
- Enjoy a self guided tour of the museum, submarine artifacts and the biggest highlight of all; tour the USS Submarine with the assistance of an audio wand.
- Experience what life would be like on a submarine first hand. Docents are available to answer any questions that you may have.
- Enjoy a picnic lunch in the picnic area on the grounds. Or dine at the seasonally open concession restaurant.
- Shop for inexpensive mementos at the museum gift shop.
Submarine Force Museum Insider Tips
- The museum and dock are wheelchair accessible. The USS Nautilus is not very handicap accessible.
- This museum is donation based. The parking and visit is free but please consider making a small donation upon arrival.
- The museum is always closed on Tuesdays. Hours vary in the summer months vs. the winter months.
- All tours are self guided. You can get an audio wand which will assist you along your way with details and information about the museum artifacts and the submarine.
- Museum docents are available as volunteers to answer any questions that you may have.
- There is no food or drink allowed on the submarine. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the picnic areas.
- Guests are asked not to climb the rocks by the museum for security reasons and safety.
