Activity Overview

Built in 1894, St. Louis Union Station was the largest and most beautiful train stations in the United States. The station has a massively exquisite Grand Hall with Romanesque gold leafed arches, stained glass windows and a 65 foot barrel vaulted ceiling. The architecture at Union Station is masterful and breathtaking. In 1979, the Station was fully restored and became the largest re-use project in the United States.

The station now includes a hotel, exhibit space, meeting rooms, retail and outdoor space and excursion trains. The architectural masterpiece is a historical national landmark.

Things to Do

  • Shop at the multitude of shops within the mall setting.
  • Visit the magnificent Grand Hall and enjoy 10 minute mini films that depict various historical events in St. Louis projected in the ceiling of this spectacular architectural display.
  • Enjoy a hotel stay at the Doubletree Inn
  • Enjoy music festivals out back at the pavilion area.
  • Reserve the meeting rooms for events.

St. Louis Union Station Insider Tips

  • Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of empty shops inside.
  • There is a light show available in the evenings which is a must see.
  • I recommend going online to the website and viewing some of the archives of old letters pertaining to the station.
  • Even if you cannot afford to stay in the hotel, it is worth the trip to walk through the station, read a book, or have some coffee in the lobby.
