Activity Overview

Spectacle Island is a beautiful 105-acre island located just a few miles away from downtown Boston in Boston Harbor. It is a part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area, and can be reached by ferry or shuttle boat. In addition to its gorgeous beach, the island features walking trails, spectacular views of Boston Harbor, a visitor center, a marina, and a cafe.

Things to Do

  • In the summertime, cool off by going for a swim in Boston Harbor! Trained lifeguards are provided at the popular sandy beach throughout the summer.
  • Explore the island by going for a family hike along the 5 miles of walking trails, which lead to the top of a huge hill that provides breathtaking views of Boston in the distance.
  • Stop by the visitor center to learn about the history of the island and its wildlife.

  • Bring along a picnic lunch to eat in one of the picnic areas by the shore, or grab a snack from the island's cafe.
