Looking to travel back in time and enjoy a ride in an old passenger train? Hop on to excursion train that departs from the Heritage center near Oak ridge, Tennessee. Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Tennessee offers scenic excursion train rides that provide a glimpse into the history and heyday of passenger railroading. The train winds through beautiful hills and valleys of East Tennessee. Excursion trains operate April through December every 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month.

Things to Do

  • The museum in Knoxville, Tn preserves, restores and displays historic railroad locomotive, locomotives include L&N 1315 that was built in 1966 and is still in operation in the museum.
  • Scenic excursion train rides take passengers to another world, trains are pulled by 1950's diesel locomotives, each trip lasts for about one hour.
  • The excursion train takes you through and along the creek and highway 327 in the valleys of East Tennessee, the coaches are air-conditioned.
  • Dinner trains offer 1.5-hour of train ride with freshly cooked and scrumptious food, food options are beef, chicken, sea food or vegetarian.
  • It is advised to make reservation for train rides, tickets can be bought online. Volunteers on board tell the history and story of the train and railroading.
