South Street Seaport Museum is a part of a historic complex that encompasses restored 19th century buildings, visitors can discover the maritime past of the New York city at the museum. The museum houses historic ships, maritime artifacts and memorabilia of archeological importance. If you are a fan of history, maritime and archeology it is a must visit museum for you and your family. Apart from historical artifacts and collection, the museum holds special educational events geared towards students and families, you can sail in one of the schooner and learn about the marine ecosystem. Visitors can tour the museum Wednesday through Sundays.

Things to Do

  • Tour the museum at our own pace, you can purchase tickets online. See the 1885 restored schooner "Pioneer" that still sails the harbor.
  • See the historic 1885 ship "waver tree", the ships are restored in their historic form, you can see the crew cabins and read the stories of the crew members.
  • Guided walking tours of the seaport are held every week for those interested, tours discuss the history of the old seaport in detail, and are by appointment.
  • Families can sail in one of the historic schooners Pioneer, it is an extra ordinary experience of exploring the sea animals and learning about sailing.
  • The Bowne print shop has free access, it is an 19th century printing press with historic printing presses and a souvenir shop.
