Activity Overview
Charleston's South Carolina Aquarium is a large aquarium complex with a range of sea creatures living in 60 habitats including a 385,000 gallon Great Ocean Tank. The run conservations programs for animals in danger and educational programs to teach adults and children alike about our oceans and the multitude of creatures that live within them. Alongside this there are plenty of fun exhibits for you and your family to enjoy.
Things to Do
- An incredible array of amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals, plants and reptiles can be seen at the Aquarium. Here you can get up close and personal with ring tailed lemurs, giant day geckos, northern spider and loggerhead tortoise, moon jellyfish, Spanish hogfish. burrfish, Venus flytraps, river otters and many more exotic and wonderful animals, fish and plants.
- The Aquarium has many exhibits to be enjoyed. You can hike through the Mountain Forest exhibit to see bald eagles and river otters. Witness lemurs, a crocodile and white spotted bamboo sharks during the Madagascar Journey which includes Mini-Gascar, an area where kids are free to play.
- Catch a show of divers interacting with sharks, turtles and jellyfish at their impressive 385,000 gallon Great Ocean Tank.

- For parking nearby head to the parking garage operated by the city of Charleston at 24 Calhoun Street. There is also metered parking on Washington and Concord Streets. The Aquarium is also served by CARTA DASH trolleys.
