Activity Overview
The Seattle Central Library stands glingint against the sun with its 11-story tall building made from glass and steel. Even though everything can be read online now, people are still drawn to holding hardbound books, leafing through pages, and reading from an actual book and not from a screen.
Things to Do
- Don't rush straight ahead inside the library. Admire the architecture from outside first and see why this building is listed in the American Institute of Architects' top 150 favorite structures in the US.
- Find the book section that you've been looking for or take your kids to the designated special area for children. Ask the information services for a directory of the floor locations. You'll find special areas for teens, students, writers, and musicians too.
- Ride the elevator up to the 10th floor for the viewpoint area. Grab a book and find an area in the Betty Jane Narver Reading room. The spacious area features a high ceiling and great views of Elliott Bay.
- Visit the library's events page to participate in poetry reading sessions, story telling time, English classes, and computer basic courses.
- Order a cup of coffee at the Coffee Cart and buy souvenirs at the Friendshop. Both areas are located at the third floor.
Seattle Central Library Insider Tips
- The library is located downtown so parking is always a challenge. Take the public transportation if you can to avoid the hassle of finding a parking slot.
