Activity Overview

The Santa Fe Botanical Garden is run by a non-profit group whose aim it is to protect and conserve the rich botanical heritage of their area of New Mexico. Their principal project is the charming Botanical Garden which can be found on Museum Hill. This Garden was only opened to the public for the first time in summer of 2013. Due to that it is still small yet a second phase is already in the works. Part of the excitement of coming now is that you can return in a few years to see how the garden has expanded and matured!

Things to Do

  • The Botanical Garden at Museum Hill comes to fourteen acres in total, although part of this has yet to be developed and opened to the public. Sometime in 2015 this second phase should be complete adding a visitor's center and a larger garden with more of an educational tone. For now however there is still plenty to enjoy with phase 1 entitled the Orchard Gardens which offer a peaceful, tranquil space for one to sit, contemplate and appreciate the natural flora of this part of the country.

Santa Fe Botanical Garden at Museum Hill Insider Tips

  • The Santa Fe Botanical Garden is located in the impressive Museum Hill district aslo known as Camino Lejo. Also on Museum Hill you will find the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, the Museum of International Folk Art, the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian and the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art. With all these options it makes a good choice for a full day's, (or an entire weekend's!) sightseeing.
  • From April through to October the Garden is open 9 am to 5 pm seven days a week. However during their winter hours from November until March the Garden is only open from Thursday to Sunday for the reduced hours of 11 am until 3 pm.
  • If you enjoy the Botanical Garden then consider visiting the other locations run by the same non-profit; the Lenora Curtin Wetland Preserve and the Ortiz Mountain Educational Preserve.
