Activity Overview

The longest aerial tram in the country, the Sandia Peak Tramway, will take you above canyons and cliffs up to 10,378 feet above the ground. At the top, enjoy a sweeping, panoramic view of the Rio Grande Valley and Albuquerque.

Things to Do

  • Fall in line for the tramway ride. Make sure to get in early to get a good viewing spot. Up to 50 people can fit in one tram and if your last in line, you might get stuck in the middle of the tram. A Sandia Tram employee will recount the tram's history and give information about the Sandia Mountains.
  • Dine at the restaurants, High Finance and Sandiago's Mexican Grill, located at the top. Call ahead for reservations.
  • If you are looking for a more adventurous activity, choose from any of the trails and hike. Remember to bring water and to notify someone of your route.
  • The Sandia Peak Ski area opens depending on the snow fall during the winter. Visit their website to know about the status of the park.
  • In the summer, families can go up the Sandias for picnics, short hikes, biking, and sand pit volleyball.

Sandia Peak Tramway Insider Tips

  • Bring a jacket. Temperatures at the top can be 30 degrees colder.
  • Pets are not allowed inside the tram. Dog/Cat kennels with water are available so you can leave your pets while you go for a tram ride.
