Activity Overview

Saguaro National Park is home to the symbolic Saguaro cactus plant that is the largest Cactus in America, the park is located in Tucson, Arizona and is part of the Sonoran desert. You can visit the national park anytime of the year, but the peak months are November through March when the temperatures are milder. The park has many hiking tracks and biking trails, and camping areas. The national park has two visitor centers; one at the West side of the park and other at the east in the Rincon mountain district. There are many picnic areas in the park and scenic drive trails. The Saguaro national park visitor centers are open year round and close before sunset.

Things to Do

  • The Red Hills visitor center in Tucson offers great views of the surrounding mountains and natural history exhibits of the Sonoran desert.
  • A 15-minute program "voices of the desert" are shown at the visitor centers daily, visit the bookstore in the red hills visitor center.
  • Want to get an up close look at the desert life of the Sonoran desert? Take a scenic drive and see the gigantic Saguaro cactus plant and other desert plants and wildlife.
  • The picnic areas are reachable through the drives, picnic areas have picnic tables and grills.
  • Looking to hike? Put your hiking shoes on and hike the trails in the park, do bring water when planning to hike.
  • See the 900+ year-old rock art at the signal hill picnic area, some of the picnic areas are accessible on vehicles.
