Activity Overview

The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway encompasses gardens, plazas, and tree-lined promenades. Offering beautiful places for relaxation within the rhythm of the urban environment, the Greenway is a key feature of the modern reinvention of Boston, Boston Harbor, the South Boston Waterfront, and the Harbor Islands.

Things to Do

Ride the Carousel - The carousel features 36 seats on 14 one-of-a-kind characters designed by Boston school children - it is located across from Christopher Columbus Park and Faneuil Hall.

Splash and Stay Cool in Rings Fountain - Cool off on a hot summer day in Boston at the Rings Fountain in the Wharf District Parks. You can count 64 nozzles that shoot up in the air and create circles of vertical water.

Food Trucks - Plan a picnic in the parks and stop by one of the Greenway food vendors to pick up good eats and tasty treats. From the Bacon Truck to the Chocolate Chip Cookie Truck and everything in between.

Peruse Arts & Craft Vendors along the perimeter of the park during the Summer.

Toss a ball or a frisbee, read a book, or even picnic in one of the many open green spaces.

Greenway Insider Tips

  • The Greenway Carousel is a really unique and fun creation featuring 14 different animal characters native to Massachusetts including a sea turtle, a cod, a peregrine falcon, a grasshopper, a harbor seal, a fox, a skunk, a whale, three types of butterflies, a barn owl, and a sea serpent. Each animal was inspired by the drawings of Boston school children and fabricated by Newburyport, Massachusetts artist Jeff Briggs.
  • There are a total of 36 seats on the Greenway Carousel, considered New England’s most accessible carousel for adults and youth with physical or auditory disabilities.
  • You can hold a birthday party at the Greenway Carousel
  • The Carousel is located right outside of Faneuil Hall Marketplace, across the street from the New England Aquarium and a few blocks from Boston's famous Italian North End. You can walk the entire Greenway from the Seaport area (Boston Children's Museum; Boston Tea Party Museum) to the North end (grab a cannoli!) and it's a great day.
  • Wanna take a boat ride? Jump on the airport water taxi right across the street (Columbus Park). ~$17 round trip will give you a fun ride across the harbor for spectacular views.
