Activity Overview
The Greenhouse is one of the highlights of Cleveland's Rockefeller Park. In 1897 John D. Rockefeller donated 270 acres of land to the city to be used as park space. His park remains to this day as does its greenhouse which was constructed in 1905. Taking up four acres this wonderful greenhouse includes indoor and outdoor displays. Gardens of different varieties can be enjoyed while plenty of special events and exhibits take place throughout the year.
Things to Do
- There are a few beautifully kept gardens for you to enjoy at the Greenhouse. The formal Japanese garden which was planted in the 1960s is meticulously maintained and makes an excellent place for peaceful contemplation.
- They have a desert like section dedicated to various kinds of succulents and cacti that not only survive but thrive under the most difficult circumstances. During the festive months there are especially themed Christmas displays which always prove popular with local residents.
- Bring along a picnic to enjoy with your friends or family. The area surrounding the Greenhouse, like much of the Rockefeller Park, makes for a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy the good weather during the spring and summer months.
Rockefeller Park Greenhouse Insider Tips
- The Greenhouse can be found at the Northeastern edge of the Rockefeller Park between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and E. 88th St.
- Admission to the Greenhouse is free for all the public.
- You can fit in a trip to the Greenhouse with a few other Cleveland sites like University Circle, Asiatown and the Cultural Gardens.
