Activity Overview
For train lovers young and old a trip on one of the Roaring Camp Railroads routes is an absolute must. This is an amazing chance to ride a real steam train through some of the most beautiful landscape this part of the country has to offer. Regular journeys depart throughout the year. Special events are also organized for various holidays.
Things to Do
- Roaring Camp Railroads offer two routes for their would-be passengers. The first is a one hour round trip in the stunning Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park where your steam train will be dwarfed by the mighty trees rising high above it.
- The second route offers a longer trip which begins in the State Park but takes you down into San Lorenzo River Gorge before arriving at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
- If you are a true railroad nut you can take the chance to be an engineer for the day. Ride up in the cab with the senior engineer and the fireman and help them in their duties to keep the train running. You have to be over 18 years old to take part in this activity.
