Activity Overview
Rio Grande Nature Center State Park is a birding paradise found in an area called the bosque, bordering the Rio Grande, around 5-6 miles from Downtown Albuquerque New Mexico. The park is roughly 270 acres and is considered a wetland, giving you opportunities to see various birds, walk through the woods, or see the meadows within the area.
Things to Do
- There is a nature class that you can enroll your children to learn more about the habitat and plenty of displays and hands on activities at the visitor center.
- There is a 1.2 mile easy trail that you can hike in and there are a few bike trails if you prefer to ride your own bike. Dogs are perfectly allowed within the biking trails, but pick up after them if they do their business!
- Birding is a popular activity within the park, there are lots of nesting birds within the park and migratory birds often stop by. You can also see various reptiles in the area such as turtles and lizards and if you're lucky see a coyote too!
Rio Grande Nature Center State Park Insider Tips
- There is an entrance fee of $5 per vehicle before you go to the park - ensure you have exact change & cash with you as not all the parks accept credit cards as payment.
- The park closes at 5PM and you have to vacate the park before that time so plan your visit accordingly. Would suggest arriving at around 3PM at the latest to enjoy the hike and the various wildlife that you may see.
