Rice Park

Activity Overview

Rice Park is a public park located in the heart of downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota. Created in 1849, this historic urban park features a beautiful fountain, a bandstand, and numerous statues, as well as an outdoor ice rink in the wintertime. There's always something fun happening at Rice Park, from live musical performances in the summer to the annual Saint Paul Winter Carnival which features ice carving displays and parades. It's also just a great place to take the kids to get some fresh air and exercise, even if there isn't a special event going on.

Things to Do

• See if you can find the Peanuts character statues that are located in the park! Downtown Saint Paul is home to several bronze statues of your favorite characters, including Charlie Brown, Schroeder, Lucy, Linus, Peppermint Patty, and Marcie that were created in honor of Charles M. Schulz, a local cartoonist.
• Go ice skating in the winter - each year they create an outdoor ice rink where you can take the whole family for some frosty, festive fun!
• Attend the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, one of the oldest winter festivals in the United States. Attractions include ice carving, live music, parades, a pie-eating contest, and an ice bar for the adults!

• Don't forget to stop by the fountain - this popular attraction is one of the most beautiful sights in Rice Park.
• Rice Park doesn't have a parking lot, but don't worry about finding a space for your car - there's plenty of street parking in the downtown area.
• Once you're finished exploring the park, check out all of the fascinating historic buildings that surround it, including the Landmark Center, a cultural center which features exhibitions and live performances.
