Activity Overview

The Rawlings Conservatory is a glorious place where you can explore the many plant ecosystems from around the world. Rawling's architecture is magnificent and is one of the few Victorian conservatories left in the world today. It is worth the trip simply to view this incredible glass structure, but you are sure to be mesmerize by the perfectly manicured gardens and spectacular garden species that await you inside.

A unique point of interest is the Bronze clad sundial from the 1890's which points to all four time zones in the world. You may pass this wondrous place on your way to Maryland Zoo and it is often overlooked as a destination, but this hidden gem really begs to be explored.

Things to Do

Be sure to explore the five glorious sections of this conservatory at your leisure.

  • The Palm House
  • The Orchid Room
  • Mediteranean House
  • Tropical House
  • Desert House

You may purchase fish food and watch the fish frenzy when you feed the tropical fish

Visit the gift shop where they sell horticulture books, various succulent plants and cards

Enjoy the Plants to People Series on Sunday afternoons. Each Sunday offers and event focused on a certain age range from children to adults. Check the calendar for more information.

Rawlings Conservatory Insider Tips

  • There is no charge to visit the conservatory, however they do stress that a $5 donation is strongly encouraged.
  • There is plenty of free parking around the Conservatory and throughout Druid Park
  • Visitors should practice garden etiquette while exploring the gardens and leave flowers, fruits and plants intact for others to enjoy. Also, stick to the garden paths and do not trample through the garden beds and use care around the fountains, in the Desert House and tropical pool. Supervision of small children is a must.
  • I recommend calling first before visiting because there are occasions when the Conservatory is booked for an event which changes the normal visiting hours.
  • Again check the calendar because in the summer months Druid Hill Park has a Farmer's Market that can certainly enhance your visit
  • Beautiful grounds with picnic areas and park
  • There are many events on their calendar http://www.rawlingsconservatory.org/calendar/ which I highly recommending checking out to add depth and fun to your visit.
