Activity Overview
The Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary is a beautiful expanse of over 135 acres that includes some gorgeous landscape and wildlife. Birds of various varieties can be spotted here while the gardens and hiking trails themselves can be enjoyed simply for the wonderful insight into New Mexico's nature which they provide.
Things to Do
- New Mexico in general is an excellent place for bird watchers. Over 500 different bird types have been noted in the State, giving it one of the highest numbers in the U.S. You can see the full list so far here courtesy of the New Mexico Ornithological Society. Of these 500 over 190 have been found on the grounds of the Audubon Center. With this wide array of birds there are plenty of events going on for birders, many of which The Audubon Center are involved in.
- Through the Center you can get involved in February's Great Backyard Bird Count and the New Mexico Christmas Bird Count, both of which provide valuable info for scientists and conservationists.
- Head along on one of their free Saturday morning bird walks or go on the last Tuesday of every month for Birds & Beers.

- The Center give lots of information on various trails around the state including maps and guides you can download in pdf form from their website.
- Of course birds aren't the only fine feathered friends you can look out for around the countryside. Take a look at the Center's list of butterfly that have been seen out in the wild and see if you can spot some for yourself!
