Since 1836, the Providence Athenaeum has served the community as a book lender and cultural center offering educational and cultural programs to suit many interests.
Set in a well-preserved, historic building with impressive architecture, the Athenaeum is the nation's fourth oldest library and houses an extensive, extraordinary collection of works.
Strolling around the aisles, one will see the corners where several literary giants curled up to read. One may also admire the busts of various authors of note, the most recent being a bronze rendition of H.P. Lovecraft.
