Activity Overview

Brooklyn's Prospect Park has much more to offer than your typical neighborhood green space. This 585 acre public park is home to an art museum, a public library, a zoo and an Audubon center. Of course it also has plenty of green areas where you can sit and relax or walk around and enjoy a slice of nature in the madness of New York. This park can make a nice alternative to the more crowded and better known Central Park.

Things to Do

• Bring your kids along to the Prospect Park Audubon Center. Here they can learn about the nature and wildlife of Prospect Park through interactive exhibits and interactions with live animals.
• Another great destination for kids is the park's Zoo where your children can get up close and personal with about 400 different animals. Once your done you can take them for a ride on the park's Carousel or bring them to any one of the Park's numerous playgrounds.
• Bring along your tennis racket and play a few games with friends and family at Prospect Park's Tennis Center. Once you register an account with the center you can reserve courts online on the hour. The Tennis Center also offers lessons and organizes leagues for adults and younger people.
• They run special needs programs as well as camps for youths. You can even have your child's birthday party here.

Prospect Park Insider Tips

• The park's website makes a number of maps available. These include an interactive map, a regular map for visitors and another with distances marked on it for runners. With these maps you can easily locate where the park's restrooms, water fountains and food stands are.
• There is free Wi-Fi at the park's Picnic House and the surrounding area.
