Activity Overview

Plaza Midwood is known as one of Charlotte's diverse streets lined with restaurants, art galleries, and vintage shops. The neighborhood was established in the 1920s, went through the Depression, and eventually, preservation works started in 1975. Aside from the entertainment areas, Plaza Midwood features a Historic District located in the western section, along The Plaza and Thomas Avenue.

Things to Do

  • Start the day with breakfast or brunch at any of the recommended restaurants. Most reviews cite Zada Jane's Corner Cafe as a great place for Sunday brunch. Grab some pastries from Nova's Bakery or indulge the kids' sweet tooth with cupcakes from Fumanchu and pair these with good coffee from Pure Intentions.
  • Visit the art galleries featuring Charlotte's local artists. Works can be found at the NoDa area, Eccentric Art Gallery, or at the Paper Cut Gallery. Also drop by antique shops such as Fifteen Ten along Central Avenue, featuring works from the 1800s up to the 20th century.
  • There are plenty of other shops catering to specific needs such as skate shops, weaving, and frock shops. Get gifts and souvenirs from Green with Envy or Reggae Central for books and music.

Plaza Midwood Insider Tips

  • Make this a whole day trip for the family by visiting the Historic District first, visiting Central Avenue for lunch, and capping off the day with a trip to the 7th Street Public Market for last minute bazaar shopping and dinner.
