Activity Overview
Children of all ages will enjoy participating in this fun twist to manipulating Play-Doh. We all love and know the importance of family game nights, but sometimes it can be difficult to find a family game that appeals to a wide variety of ages. This is a great one that does just that. Based loosely on the popular show Cupcake Wars, my kids came up with this fun activity which actively engaged the entire family. In the end, the cupcake submissions all received accolades for the qualities that made them standouts. This activity is wonderful for developing fine motor skills and a surprisingly fun activity for family game nights. You will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of detail and creativity that is expressed even by those that you least expect it from.
What You Will Need
- Ample amounts of play-doh, store bought or homemade
- sculpting tools
- cupcake wrappers
- display plate
How It Works
- Participants sit around a large table and are provided with ample amounts of play-doh and sculpting tools.
- Crafter/ Bakers are challenged to create unique, appealing, and realistic looking cupcakes.
- After a set amount of time, the crafter/ bakers "submit" their best masterpieces to the display plate.
- All family members can take part in the judging, coming up with positive awards for each cupcake submitted.
Some helpful suggestions:
Utilize themes during this activity that might range from holidays, special events, movie themes, sports teams etc. The possibilities are endless and make this an activity that can be played again and again while it always remains new and interesting.
Get creative with your toppings and decorations. Think of the play-doh as fondant and decorate with cookie cuttered shapes, fruits, lattice toppings sprinkles and more.
