Activity Overview
Play the classic basketball game of H-O-R-S-E with a friend or family member or in a group. Not only does the game present a fun and creative challenge, when you play you will also be practicing your basketball fundamentals in the process.
This is an outdoor game played with a ball and a hoop, however you can certainly be creative and play with what you have and still have a lot of fun in the process. The object of the game is to come up with challenging shots and make them, while your opponents have to copy the shots that you take and also make them. Players receive a letter in the word horse if they are unsuccessful at recreating the shot that was performed before them. Play alternates when the leader misses. The first person to spell out H-O-R-S-E is the first one out of the game.
Materials Needed
- Basketball ( or a tennis ball)
- A Basketball hoop ( or bucket)
How to Play
- The first player announces where and how he or she is going to shoot the ball in the hoop and takes a shot.
- If he or she misses the shot, she goes to the end of the line. If she makes the basket, the next player must make the same shot on the same way that was announced and performed.
- If the second player misses the shot, she gets an H. Then it is the next player’s turn to announce a shot and try to make it.
- Each time a player fails to make a shot that the player before him made, he gets another letter until someone has spelled the word H-O-R-S-E.
- When a player spells the word H-O-R-S-E the player is out of the game. The other players can continue to play until only one player is remaining.
