Activity Overview

The Pittsburg Zoo opened its doors over one hundred years ago and remains an important part of the Pittsburg community. Home to over 400 different species of animals, including 22 that are either threatened or endangered all within 7 distinct regions.

Things to See & Do

Multiple times a day you can “Meet an Expert” and learn more about your favorite animals. Some of the more popular stops are: The Red Panda, daily at 11:20am and The African Savannah Sunday through Friday at 11:45am. Other animals that have “meet the expert” times are Rhinos, Sea Turtles, Tortoise, Ungulates and primates.

There is also a chance to watch some of your favorite animals having their afternoon meals. The sea lions are fed daily at 12:30 and the sea otters are fed daily at noon. Now if elephants are more your style, there are fed every weekday at 10:30am.

There are daily shows in three different locations.

Safari Amphitheater Daily at 11:30 a.m., noon, and 12:30 a.m.Bayer Amphitheater Daily at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.Working Wild Exhibit Weekends from 1-3 p.m.

  • To make it easier to plan your day at the zoo click here for an interactive map
  • Food is available inside the zoo at the Safari Plaza Restaurant and the Animal Connection Café. The restaurant is open year around and the café is only open during the summer months.
  • Wagons, safari jeeps, and adult strollers can be rented at Safari Wheels from April through October. From November through March, they can be rented at the Safari Gift Shop. Wagons: $8 per day, Safari Jeeps: $8 per day and Adult Strollers/Wheelchairs: No Cost
  • If you need to pick up any sundries you left at home check out the Safari Village store. They carry sunscreen, disposable cameras and much more.
  • The park has two rides that have delighted visitors for many generations. The Carousel with its menagerie of zoo-themed horses and wonderful music and The Kids Kingdom Log Ride special designed for children under 50-inches tall. On this ride they will float around a large pond where ducks, fish, and turtles have made their home. The rides run during the summer months (weather permitting) The price for these rides are, Carousel: $1.50 and The Log Ride: $1.00
