The object of the challenge is to pick up a coin that is submerged in a thin layer of water on a plate without getting your fingers wet. With a few magic words, magic conjuring gestures, and a couple of simple steps you will steal the show as you succeed at the seemingly impossible task!
Materials Needed
- A plate
- Food coloring
- A glass 1/2 full of water
- A slice of cork
- 3 or 4 matches
- An adult
How to Do It
- Place a coin on a plate.
- Pour the colored water over the plate and coin.
- Tell you audience that you can pick up the coin without getting your fingers wet, as seemingly impossible feat.
- Next, take a piece of a cork and stick three or four matches into the cork as shown above.
- Place the cork on top of the liquid.
- Call up an adult to be your assistant and ask him or her to kindly light the matches.
- Quickly and carefully take your empty glass and turn it upside down and lower it over the top of the cork and matches.
- Say a few magic works and wave your hands a bit and the actions that happen next will allow you to pick up the coin without getting your fingers wet!
