Activity Overview
Located in New Orleans Historic District in Chartres Street, the Pharmacy Museum is housed in a building listed as part of the National Register of Historic Places. It showcases the collection of America's first licensed pharmacist, Louis Dufilho. Known for his contribution to the field of pharmacy in the early 19th century, his apothecary in New Orleans is the first proven adequate apothecary in town. Within walking distance from this museum are some of the other historic NOLA spots like Jackson Square & St Louis Cathedral.
Things to Do
- Enjoy the exhibits - two floors of exhibits greet the visitor of this museum. The first floor has perfumes & cosmetics (which every girl would love), voodoo potions, surgical instruments, a soda fountain, amongst others, while the second floor showcases the living quarters, physician's study, some special exhibits, and a few collections. You & your kids will get to know more about the field of pharmacy and can compare how the practice has evolved from the 19th century to what you see in CVS or Walgreens in the 21st century.
- See the courtyard - The courtyard plays host to several weddings, receptions & parties. The courtyard is quaint and is very beautiful - a definite must see. You can also see the carriageway and the loggia on the premises.

- There is a daily guided tour at 1PM and takes an hour. This is best if you want more information on what you are seeing from the museum, and want to hear stories and the history of some of the exhibits - and it's only $5 (the price of your admission)
