Activity Overview

Trace the evolution of humanity by touring the numerous galleries of the Penn Museum (also called the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology), where you will find close to a million relics from dozens of cultures.

Permanent exhibits include statues, masks, sculptures, paintings, tapestries and even mummies from Egypt, Africa, Israel, China, Italy, Greece, Japan, Mexico, Central America and more.

Special exhibits include such riveting topics as Human Evolution, Iraq's Ancient Past, Making and Unmaking Race, Hollywood in the Amazon, Vaults of Heaven and Native American Voices.

Things to See & Do

Learn of the expeditions around the world sponsored by the museum which resulted in the collection of many of the articles on display.

Admire the attractive museum building itself along with its surrounding gardens, fountains, and sculptures.

Visit the artifact lab and engage in conversation with a conservation specialist at work on Egyptian mummies.

Penn Museum Insider Tips

  • From iTunes, download a one-hour "Highlights of the Galleries" audio tour. This tour will soon be available at the museum for a fee of $5.
