Activity Overview

Everyone loves to receive a handwritten note in the mail. My children ask daily if there is any mail in the mailbox for them. Most often, there is disappointment and I explain to them that oftentimes you need to send a letter in order to receive one. This is the perfect opportunity to put those good intentions to work and do just that. Bring some joy to a friend or family member's day and make these homemade Patchwork Postcards made from items that would normally be tossed aside. You might just receive something in return.

Materials Needed

  • Cardboard from cereal or snack boxes
  • Mod Podge
  • Foam Brush
  • Scraps of fabric in different designs

How To Make Them

  1. Cut your empty boxes into rectangles that measure 4 /14 inches X 6 inches.
  2. Cut or use fabric scraps that you have one hand and set aside.
  3. Using your foam brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge starting in one corner and moving across the colored side of the cardboard.
  4. Cover the entire side with bits of different fabrics.
  5. Allow to dry.
  6. When the decorative side is completely dry, flip it over and address and write our your postcard. Place a stamp on it and send to a friend.
