Share:

Activity Overview

Make a cool prehistoric dinosaur our of a paper plate in a few simple steps. Children are simply fascinated by these extraordinary prehistoric creatures that once roamed our Earth. Pair this project up with a trip to a dinosaur park or museum or even a book about dinosaurs. It is so neat what you can make by cutting various shapes out of a simple paper plate and placing them in a different location.

Materials Needed

  • Two paper plates
  • Bubble wrap
  • Paintbrush
  • Washable Paint
  • Google eyes
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • A pencil

How to Make It

  1. Spread some paint out on a paper plate.
  2. Dip a piece of bubble wrap bubble side down onto the paint and press the bubble wrap bubble side down onto a paper plate over and over again until the entire plate is covered in a scale-like pattern.
  3. Allow time to dry.
  4. When the paint is dry, flip it over and draw the following pattern on the back. See the photo above for additional guidance. Draw a line across the back of the plate one third of the way down. The part above this line will be the body of your dinosaur
  5. Below that line draw an oval for the dinosaur head and draw 2 thin 4 inch rectangles and 2 thin 2 inch rectangles on the center flat back of the paper plate. Next, draw a swooping line from the line that you made across down the side of the plate and around to the bottom for a long curvy triangular shaped tail.
  6. Cut out the pieces. You should have a head, two legs, two arms, a tail, and a body.
  7. Flip the pieces over and holding the body upright on an angle, glue the head, legs, and tail in place using the picture above as your guide.
  8. Glue a google eye on to the head. You may also use markers to accent other features that you would like to accentuate.
