Activity Overview
Boston's Old North Church was the scene of a pivotal moment in early American history. Here Robert Newman gave the famous signal by lanterns, "One if by land, and two, if by sea" to tell Paul Revere of the approach of the British army before Revere's famous midnight ride of April 18th 1775. It is also Boston's oldest church and visitors are welcome to come and learn about its place in U.S history.
Things to Do
- The roughly half a million guests which Old North Church attracts every year have a range of events, programs and tours available which they can take advantage of.
- On the week of July 4th Old North hosts Harborfest a festival of family friendly activities and events.
- There is a behind the scenes tour of the Bell Chamber and the crypt as well as an art and architecture tour.
- Kids should enjoy Captain Jackson's Historic Chocolate Shop. Here visitors get the opportunity to see how chocolate was made around the time of the Revolutionary era. They also get to taste some free samples and if you like them you can buy some to take home with you.
- There are multiple gardens surrounding the church which are laid open as spaces for reflection and prayer. They also make a perfect spot for a nice stroll or a place for a good photo with your family.

- Admission to Old North Church is free though there is a suggested donation of $3. There are however charges for certain guided tours.
- The Old North Church is one of the stops on the Freedom Tour, a 2.5 mile walk through 16 historically significant sites in Boston, each relating to the Revolutionary War.
