Activity Overview
The Oklahoma Firefighters Museum has a hugely impressive collection of firefighting equipment from over the years. Since its opening in 1967 the organizers of the museum have striven to add to the collection and to make it all available for the education and entertainment of the general public. So there is a fantastic collection of vintage and modern fire trucks, firefighting uniforms and equipment and much more. Fire buffs will love it!
Things to Do
- It is fun to have a look around the small replica of an old firehouse which can be found inside the Museum. It includes old alarm systems that were used decades ago as well as log books that were used as guides by firemen on how they should conduct their first response when dealing with a fire.
- Marvel at the Museum's gigantic collection of patches from around the world. What began with just four boxes from chief of Oklahoma City Fire Departments Ben B. Dancy's personal collection in the 1960's has now grown to a number well over 7,000.
- Make sure you take some time to take in the memorial outside which is dedicated to firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It is a fitting and memorable tribute to people who bravely gave their lives to save those of others.
