Activity Overview
Located on 119 acres of land at the Adventure District of the state, the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden serves as home to more than 1,500 animals. The enclosures are surrounded by lush greeneries, with tropical plants from Australia to India, aimed to promote plant education. Animal exhibits include a Butterfly Garden, Elephant Habitat, and Cat Forest to name a few. The zoo also offers packages for birthdays, day camps, and overnight trips.
Things to Do
- Learn about animals native to Oklahoma at the Oklahoma Trails Adventure. This 8-acre exhibit showcases more than 100 different species such as grizzly bears, cougars, and alligators. The state's distinct natural environment was also taken into consideration in the design through the inclusion of plants commonly seen in Oklahoma like the redbud, post oak, Indian blanket, and bald cypress.
- Ride the Centennial Choo Choo train and visit the Hoofed Animals area in the southwest area of the zoo. Say hello to zebras, giraffes, ostriches, gazelles, and deers. Also get a chance to feed the giraffes for an added fee. Check the zoo's website for the details of the schedule.
- Take the kids to the Children's Zoo Barnyard where they can touch and interact with small, gentle animals such as guinea hogs, miniature donkeys, and rabbits. Bring extra clothes as kids may get wet and splash at the small waterfall at Waterway.
