Activity Overview

The North Charleston & American La France Fire Museum & Educational Center explores the history and changes that have occurred over time since the first firemen began to bravely to their work in the 1700s. There is a treasure trove of antique fire-fighting equipment and machinery from these origins up to the present day. The interactive exhibits allow you to get involved. You should find plenty to keep you interested and to learn from in the 25,000 square feet facility. Their motto is "Enter this place to learn & leave this place to share" and they hope this is exactly what you do!

Things to Do

• There is a permanent exhibition which visitors are free to explore. As part of this exhibition you can view the museum's antique collection of firefighting apparatus. Their interactive exhibits include a "Home Fire Hazard Theatre" which simulates a home fire and a hydrant and pump which guests can use.
• Aside from this permanent exhibition the museum also has changing special exhibits and programs. If you want info on these you can email [email protected]
• The museum also runs a variety of programs for families and kids. To get you started you can fill out a Home Fire Safety Checklist and also draw up a Home Fire Escape Plan.

North Charleston Fire Museum Insider Tips

• Once your kids have visited you can give them a test with a word search and a coloring book.
• Children aged 12 and under can enter the Museum for free. There is free admission for active military personnel and their families through Labor Day.
