Activity Overview

Step back in time to the 1930's with a trip on the Nevada Southern Railway. At the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City kids of all ages can ride for about forty minutes in an open air car or air conditioned Pullman coach. Your ride will take you along a four mile long track built in 1931 to transport materials for the construction of the Hoover Dam. Trains run four times a day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Things to Do

  • You and your family can add certain programs to your ride to make the experience that bit more special. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to ride in the trains cab alongside the engineer and the driver this is your chance.
  • By paying a little more you can get the authentic experience right up at the head of the train! Or if you want to take controls of a locomotive then reserve the Engineer for an hour program.
  • From Wednesday to Friday you can choose between four different trains and receive instruction on how to run it along four miles of track. You have to be over eighteen years of age to take on this opportunity.

Nevada Southern Railway Insider Tips

  • The train and the entire journey is wheelchair accessible.
  • Be sure to print off their coupon for a dollar off the adult fare before you arrive.
  • It is possible to rent out the train for private charters. They also cater for school field trips for groups of twenty five children or more.
