"The Women Who Shape the West..Change the World" is the theme of the National Cowgirl Museum and Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, Texas. Only 30 minutes outside of Dallas, this museum features historical artifacts of the famous female politicians, gunslingers, doctors, cowgirls, and schoolteachers in the wild, wild west as well as some modern women still living the cowgirl dream.
Throughout the year, the National Cowgirl Museum hosts an arrangements of historical and interactive exhibits. The museum offers School Tours which will cater to your students, including an educational scavenger hunt to give the tour an extra spin. If you have a Girl Scout (or Brownie) in your family, the National Cowgirl Museum will give them a chance to earn their badges by visiting the museum, watching a movie in the Spirit of the Cowgirl Theatre, and by riding the bronco!
Things to Do
- Bronc Ride: A mechanical bull, modified from the training bulls used in real rodeos, will make you feel like a real cowgirl. The museum will make a short video of your ride which you can download for free off their website the next day.
- Cowgirl Boutique: More than a gift shop, this boutique offers up original jewelry and a special section for the Hall of Fame Honorees among their children's toys, cowgirl home decor, and - of course - t-shirts.
- Artifact Exhibit: Starting in October, this Fall Exhibit will showcase all of the newest members of the Cowgirl Hall of Fame
Cowgirl Museum Insider Tips
The city of Fort Worth recently passed a law removing free public parking, so bring $5 to park at the museum.
The museum is small and does not typically take more than 30 minutes to tour through, but it is interactive, so make sure to bring a large group with you and ask for the Scavenger Hunt at the front desk in order to get the most out of your experience.
