The Museum of the Moving Image is a media museum in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, New York. It is home to one of the most important collections of moving image artifacts in the world. It features exhibitions related to film, television, and digital media that are designed to teach the public about the history, techniques, and technology involved in creating moving-image media. Things to Do
- Explore Behind the Screen, the museum's main exhibition, which teaches visitors about the history of moving images from the 19th century to the present with over 1,000 artifacts like television cameras, set design sketches, fan magazines, and licensed merchandise like lunch boxes and action figures.
- Don't miss Tut's Fever Movie Palace, where movies are screened each day. This intriguing art installation and movie theater is decorated with images of famous Hollywood figures like Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth, in addition to a sarcophagus that contains a sculpture of James Dean.
- Take your creative kid to the Drop In Moving Image Studio, a special area open to children over the age of 7 most Saturdays where they can create moving image projects such as flipbooks, video games, and computer animations!
