Activity Overview

Museum of the American Railroad presents historic locomotive collection, the museum was founded in 1962 and has a large collection of steam, diesel and passenger railroad locomotive and equipment. The museum was previously located in Dallas, but now is relocated 30 miles North to Frisco, Texas. The museum exhibits and store are located in the Frisco Heritage Museum. The museum explores the history and influence of the Railroad in North Texas, the locomotives and the artifacts on display provide insight into the Railroad industry. The Frisco Heritage Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday. Walking tour dates of the new site are posted on the official page.

Things to Do

• The museum offers walking tours, see the historic collection of Pullman sleeping cars, diesel engine Santa fe Doodlebug, Centennial 6913, Frisco 4501 and the Santa fe Waycar caboose.
• Other historic locomotives are Union Pacific steam locomotive, Glen Nevis, Goliad and Glengyle with compartments and drawing rooms.
• Learn the history of these steam, diesel-electric, electric locomotives and passenger cars. Walk through the locomotives and view them up-close.
• The under construction Frisco site offers walking tours, walking tours last for approx. 45 minutes.
• The museum store at Frisco Heritage Museum stocks gifts, books and electric train sets.
