Activity Overview

Whether you live in New Orleans or are just visiting, you should head along to Conti Street to visit the Musée Conti Wax Museum. The wax museum can be found in the heart of New Orleans' French Quarter just a block and a half from the world-famous Bourbon Street.

The museum first started in the 1960s after a number of reproductions of famous people arrived into The Big Easy. That Pan Am flight from France featuring Napoleon Bonaparte, Andrew Jackson, and plenty of other historical figures would have certainly have been an interesting one!

For over 50 years the wax museum has provided visitors with a historical narrative through the use of highly-detailed mannequins that depict the story of New Orleans and Louisiana. This is how the Musée Conti Wax Museum is different to the other celebrity-filled wax museums that don't tend to provide any narrative at all.

The high-quality mannequins are the culmination of work undertaken across several countries. The glass eyes for the mannequins come from Germany and the hair comes from Italy! In fact, the hair has to be painstakingly inserted into the mannequins a strand at a time.

Things to Do

  • See over 100 different examples of the finest replications of some of the most important figures in Louisianan history.
  • Learn more about the history of the city and the state. Something you rarely find in other wax museums!
