Activity Overview

Discover artifacts, history through the years of the civil war, library collections, and get to understand your genealogy and local history at the Missouri History museum. The museum offers history tours, several exhibitions, events and memberships for its visitors. Children can visit the museum in the K-12 grade programs arranged for the school going kids, many family and youth events are held at the museum.The museum was founded in 1866.

Special events, such as films, lectures, music and theater, are held in the museum. Children of all ages will enjoy St. Louis history by exploring various artifacts, exhibits, galleries, and doing fun and interactive hands-on activities. A year-long exhibit is currently in progress, St. Louis "250 in 250", that commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of St. Louis.

Things to Do

  • Join in the celebrations of commemorating the 250 years of the founding of St. Louis, travel through the history with stories of 50 people, 50 places, 50 moments, 50 images and 50 objects. The 250 snapshots will give a glimpse into the history of St. Louis.
  • Story-telling activity is offered for kids aged 2-5 years, adults can accompany their kids.
  • School visits can be arranged, many exhibits and programs are offered for kids of all ages. Kids can enjoy puzzles, touchable items, video stations and games.
  • Visit the library and research center, where you can search the collections, explore Missouri and St. Louis history, and research on family-history.
  • Various social and corporate events can be hosted at the museum, including weddings.
  • Families and Youth can enjoy at the museum, by exploring galleries, theater and performances, workshops, and a summer family-fun series that starts every year in June.
  • Enjoy an outdoor music concert in the front lawns of the museum, in an event known as "Twilight Tuesdays".
